The Installation Guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to
successfully install the PCBx3 Manager 90days Trial Version.
The guide covers the following subjects:
NOTE: You will need Administrator privileges to install the program!
The installation will propose the folder C:\Program Files\BlakeDev
for the main application.
It is recommended to accept this default folder.
If you choose to select a different location, the application will require reconfiguring first!
- Download and save the zip file to a secure folder on your hard-disk.
- Extract the enclosed files to the same folder.
- Locate and double-click the file
Setup.exe
in that folder.
- Follow the Windows Installer prompts
- Select the Typical Installation option when prompted
NOTE: You can delete the zip file after successful installation but you need to keep the extracted files
in a secure location as they are required if you want to uninstall the application later.
NOTE: You need Administrator privileges to modify folder permissions!
To set the permissions for the two key folders open the Windows Explorer.
The two key folders shown below require the Windows 7 permission: Full control.
- Folder 1:
C:\PCBx3Manager
- location of the server database, system files and folders
- Folder 2: On 32-bit computers:
C:\Program Files\BlakeDev
- Folder 2: On 64-bit computers:
C:\Program Files (x86)\BlakeDev
- To change the permissions in Windows 7 do the following:
- Select and right-click a folder listed above
- Select
Properties
and on the General Properties dialog that is shown select the Securities
tab
- Below the
Group and user names
list click the button Edit
- On the Permissions dialog that is shown select
Users
- In the list
Permissions for Users
select the required permissions - Full control
- Press OK on the Permissions dialog and then OK again on the General Properties dialog
NOTE: In Windows XP, you need to remove the Read-only check for both folders and in the Share tab allow users to modify files in the two folders.
The sample application comes pre-configured for 32-bit / 64-bit computers and different Microsoft Office Versions.
If you have donw-loaded the wrong version - don't worry - you don't have to uninstall the sample application again!
All you need to do is download the correct PCBx3 Manager
client application.
To select a different PCBx3 Manager
application, click here.
Once you have downloaded and extracted the appropriate application simply follow the below steps:
- Select and right-click the
PCBx3 Manager
desktop icon and select Find Target
- The folder that contains the
PCBx3Client.mde
is now shown
- Delete the
PCBx3Client.mde
file
- Copy the downloaded and extracted application from above into this folder
- Rename the file to
PCBx3Client.mde
- Close the folder and follow the steps in the next section
Once installed, double-click the new PCBx3 Manager desktop icon.
Depending on your computer security and user settings, the first time the application
is opened a security warning will appear.
The warning asks you if you want to be warned prior to opening this program from
Blake Developments, select yes. The program will close again.
Double-click the PCBx3 Manager icon and on the security warning that will follow
select to open the program.
The application will load and the PCBx3 Manager | Secure Login screen will appear. Select:
- To: BuildCorp (Sample Company)
- User name: Bob
- Password: bob
- Click the Enter button
NOTE If you have donwloaded a different client application to suit your computer and Microsoft Office version,
then the downloaded application needs connecting to the Sample Application Database first. Simply follow the below steps:
- A dialog box is shown saying that the database connection is not valid, press OK to continue
- The File Open dialog box will appear for you to select the Sample Application Database
- Select the folder
C:\PCBx3Manager\PCBx3AppServer\Database
- Select the database
SAMPLEPCBx3Server.mdb
and then click open
- The system will connect to the database and a message will confirm the successful connection
- Select and enter the above Login details
To uninstall the PCBx3 Manager | 90days Trial Version application simply follow the bow steps
- Click the Start menu button and then select Control Panel
- Select Add / Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Programs and Features (Windows 7)
- Select and right-click on
Blake Developments - PCBx3 Manager Trial Version
- Select Uninstall and follow the Windows prompts
- NOTE: This will also remove the Runtime Database Engine. Refresh list to make sure
- Select and right-click on
Microsoft Access 2003 Run-time Database Engine
- Select Uninstall and follow the Windows prompts
- You may have to restart your computer
